The Brown Brothers family have been growing grapes and producing wine in Australia for many years. The actual vineyards date back to 1885 when John Francis Brown planted 10 acres at Milawa, Victoria, Australia in partnership with his father. In 1896 John Francis Brown bought out his father from the partnership and named the vineyard, “Brown Brothers” in the hopes that his brothers would join him, but they never did.
Despite various setbacks, Brown Brothers expanded over the years, producing fortified wines such as Muscat and Port as well as Shiraz, Malbec, Pedro Ximines, Riesling, Tokay and Golden Chasselas. John Francis handed over the reins of Brown Brothers to his son John Charles Brown, but it’s his picture that has appeared on every label from 1970 onwards.
Currently, Tesco has several quality wines from Brown Brothers including a Tarrango, a Moscato, an Orange Muscat and Flora, a Pinot Grigio Rose, a dry Muskat, a Chenin Blanc and a Cienna.
