Lirac Remis Ferbras Review

Lirac Remis Ferbras The “Lirac Remis Ferbras” wine is sometimes known as ‘Lirac Remy Ferbras’, after the French domaine in which it is produced. No matter! What’s more important is the quality and value for money offered by this, a full-bodied red which won’t fail to impress even the most discerning wine buff.

Nestled in the luxuriant countryside of the Gard Provençal region of France, and a stone’s throw across the Rhône from better-known neighbour Châteauneuf-du-Pape, the commune of Lirac is a collective of attractive medieval villages surrounded by richly fertile plains and vineyards. The area benefits from a warm Mediterranean climate and typically long, dry summers. This terroir lends itself to soft yet deeply fruity reds; the style of red Lirac is not dissimilar to a mellow Côtes du Rhône-Villages, whilst better examples can bear more than a passing resemblance to their celebrated counterparts from nearby Châteauneuf-du-Pape.

Lirac wines are intense and fruity, robust and yet somehow mellow; the Remy Ferbras Lirac 2005 vintage is no exception to this rule and revels in its contradictory nature. An immensely smooth yet complex wine with a surprisingly intense burst of rich, ripe fruit flavours and more than a passing hint of spice, this Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre blend positively sings on the palate with notes of black fruit, liquorice and chocolate. At 13% abv, this enfant terrible manages to pack in plenty of character and body whilst remaining fresh and young enough to be eminently drinkable.

Rich and full-bodied with an attractive brilliant deep red hue, this wine is ready to drink now but will keep for up to 2 years. It would make a wonderful accompaniment to aromatic and characterful Mediterranean classics such as traditional stewed beef daube, or lamb or duck recipes. It is also recommended as a companion to seared tuna, pasta and curry dishes, a fact which bears testimony to its versatility.

Lirac Remy Ferbras is available from Tesco online for a limited period with a fantastic 50% reduction per case. At that price, snap it up while you can!.
